COUNTY: San Diego
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Las Palmas Foundation and Global Premier Development partnered in creating a 45-unit large family apartment community in San Ysidro, California. El Pedregal Family Apartments opened in May 2010 and provides a high-quality affordable apartment community that serves large families in San Diego County. Known as the Gateway to the Americas, San Ysidro is on the United States and Mexico border. The complex is located in the San Ysidro Redeveloment Project area and is loctated near Southwestern Community College.
El Pedregal consists of two three-story buildings above a single-level underground garage as well as a 1,600 square foot community clubhouse featuring a computer learning center with free internet acces. The project provides 20 three-bedroom and 24 four-bedroom units. All apartments are set aside for households earning between 30% and 60% of the area median income.
The buildings design draws its cues from Southwestern College’s new building across San Ysidro Blvd. Flat roofs and rectilinear façade elements are counterbalanced by playful canted balcony roof supports and bright splashes of color strewn throughout each building.
